Subscription Tracker App for India (2026)
App Comparisons · The Subgrove Team · · Updated · 4 min read
Short answer: the American subscription trackers you've read about need a US bank account, so they don't work in India — a manual tracker that handles rupees and dollars together does. Rocket Money's help centre says the app is "only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks." Copilot Money's help centre says "we only support US financial institutions and as such are only available in the US App Store." An HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank or SBI account is outside both.
Why the US Apps Don't Work Here
Bank-linked trackers read your transaction feed through a data aggregator built for American banking and pick out the recurring charges. That aggregator has no connection to Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank or IDFC First, so detection — and every feature that sits on it — never starts.
India has its own consent layer, the RBI's Account Aggregator framework, live since September 2021 with Sahamati recognised as its self-regulatory organisation in June 2026. It's plumbing for sharing bank data with licensed apps — not a subscription tracker, and no help to a US-built app.
Rupees on UPI, Dollars on the Card
Most Indian lists split two ways: Hotstar, JioCinema, Spotify and YouTube Premium on UPI AutoPay in rupees; ChatGPT, Adobe, Notion and most international software in dollars on an international-enabled card, where the rupee's rate moves the true cost.
Copilot's help centre spells out that it can't hold both: "Copilot only supports USD and does not convert foreign currency transactions." That leaves you adding INR and USD by hand — the job you wanted the app to do.
One wrinkle works in your favour. Under the RBI's e-mandate rules your bank must send a pre-debit notification at least 24 hours before a recurring charge, and debits above ₹15,000 (₹1 lakh for mutual funds, insurance premiums and credit-card bills) need additional factor authentication each time. That's a safety net for big charges, not a picture of what you spend.
What to Look For
- No bank linking. If the first screen wants a bank login, it will stop there. See tracking without bank linking.
- INR and USD side by side. Each subscription in its billing currency, with a monthly total per currency. See multi-currency subscription tracking.
- A reminder at a lead time you pick. The bank's 24-hour notice is a floor, not a plan. See renewal reminders on iPhone.
- Both platforms. Indian households run on Android with iPhones mixed in. See subscription tracker for iPhone and Android.
How the Options Compare in India
| App | Works in India | Needs bank linking | Multi-currency total | iPhone + Android |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rocket Money | No — US banks only | Yes | Not stated by vendor | Yes |
| Copilot Money | No — US App Store only | Yes | No — USD only | No — iPhone, iPad, Mac, web |
| Monarch Money | Not stated by vendor (site names the US and Canada) | Yes | Not stated by vendor | Yes |
| Your bank's app / UPI app | Yes — for its own mandates | Already linked | No | Yes |
| Subgrove | Yes | No | Yes, per currency | Yes (PWA) |
Your UPI app is a genuine tool: it lists the AutoPay mandates set up through it and lets you pause or cancel them. It can't show card-billed dollar subscriptions or anything set up elsewhere.
Running It in Subgrove
Subgrove takes the manual route: enter every subscription with its amount, currency, cycle and next renewal, and it keeps the total and the warnings current.
- Rupees and dollars, each totaled. Hotstar in INR, ChatGPT in USD, a monthly figure for each.
- Push reminders on your schedule. From two weeks out to the day itself.
- One install for every device. It's a PWA: home screen on any phone, the same account on a laptop, working offline.
- Export when you want. CSV export to a spreadsheet.
Prefer the number first? The free subscription cost calculator runs in the browser, no account.
What It Doesn't Do
It doesn't detect anything — a forgotten subscription stays forgotten until you look. It doesn't cancel or negotiate; it tells you what's coming and you act, with our guide to cancelling any subscription. And it isn't a budgeting app.
Getting Started
Start with an audit: finding forgotten subscriptions covers card statements, your UPI mandate list, email receipts and the App Store and Google Play pages. Then add each one in its own currency and set a reminder.
You can sign up from India. The free plan covers five subscriptions; upgrades bill in USD on an international-enabled card.
Common Questions
Does Rocket Money work in India? No. Its help centre says it is "only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks." We cover the details in Rocket Money in India.
Why do I get a notification the day before a charge? The RBI's e-mandate rules require your bank to send a pre-debit notification at least 24 hours before any recurring charge. It's a warning, not a tracker.
Do I have to link my bank? No. Subgrove has no bank login and no aggregator.
Can I track INR and USD together? Yes. Each subscription keeps its own currency, and the dashboard shows a rupee total and a dollar total side by side. Nothing is converted at a live exchange rate, so neither figure drifts.
Is there an Android app? Yes — Subgrove is a PWA, so it installs on Android, iPhone and desktop straight from the browser.
