Subscription Tracker App for the UK (2026)

App Comparisons · The Subgrove Team · · Updated · 4 min read

Short answer: the famous American subscription trackers need a US bank connection, so they don't work in the UK — a manual tracker with real multi-currency support does. Rocket Money's help centre states the app is "only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks." Copilot Money's help centre says "we only support US financial institutions and as such are only available in the US App Store." If you bank with Barclays, Monzo, Nationwide or Starling, neither gets past its first screen.

Why the US Trackers Stop at the Border

A bank-linked tracker finds your subscriptions by reading your transactions through a data aggregator plugged into American banking. There's no route from that aggregator into an HSBC or NatWest account, so detection, cancellation and bill negotiation all fall over together.

The UK has had its own rails since 2018, when the Competition and Markets Authority ordered the nine largest banks to open up alongside the EU's PSD2 rules. What the UK lacks is the subscription-specific layer on top.

Pounds Here, Dollars Everywhere Else

A typical UK list is split: Netflix, Spotify, Sky, Now and the gym bill in pounds; Adobe, ChatGPT, Notion and most software tools bill in dollars, so the exchange rate moves the true cost every month.

Copilot's help centre is candid that this is out of scope: "Copilot only supports USD and does not convert foreign currency transactions." A USD-only app means your sterling bills go missing or get mislabelled, and there's no honest answer to "what do I spend?"

What a UK Tracker Actually Needs

How the Options Compare in the UK

App Works in the UK Needs bank linking Multi-currency total iPhone + Android
Rocket Money No — US banks only Yes Not stated by vendor Yes
Copilot Money No — US App Store only Yes No — USD only No — iPhone, iPad, Mac, web
Monarch Money Not stated by vendor (site names the US and Canada) Yes Not stated by vendor Yes
Emma Yes Yes (2 logins free, 4 on Plus) Not stated by vendor Yes
Subgrove Yes No Yes, per currency Yes (PWA)

Emma deserves a fair word: it's UK-built, its help centre lists the UK alongside the US and Canada, and if you want automatic detection from a UK bank feed it's the credible local answer. Our free Emma alternative comparison covers where the two approaches part ways.

Setting It Up in Subgrove

Subgrove is the manual route: enter each subscription with its price, currency, cycle and next renewal, and the app turns the list into a number and a set of warnings.

  • Mixed currencies, kept straight. Sky in pounds, Adobe in dollars, a total for each.
  • Reminders you choose. A push notification anywhere from a fortnight out to the morning of the charge.
  • Installs anywhere. It's a PWA: home screen on any phone, the same account on a laptop, working offline.
  • Your data leaves when you say so. CSV export in one click.

Want the total first? The free subscription cost calculator works in the browser, no account.

What Subgrove Won't Do

It won't discover a subscription you've forgotten — you type it in. It won't cancel or haggle for you; it warns you and you act, with our guide to cancelling any subscription. And it isn't a budgeting app: no envelopes, no net worth. It does one job.

Your banking app is the other honest alternative — it lists direct debits and continuous card payments for that account only, so a second card, a partner's account or an App Store charge stays invisible.

Getting Started

Audit first: finding forgotten subscriptions walks through statements, email receipts and the Apple and Google Play pages. Then add each one in its own currency and set a reminder.

You can sign up from the UK. The free plan covers five subscriptions; upgrades bill in USD.

Common Questions

Does Rocket Money work in the UK? No. Its help centre says it is "only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks." Full detail in Rocket Money in the UK.

Is Emma free? Emma Basic is free and connects two bank logins. Emma Plus, with four logins, costs £4.99 a month or £3.49 a month when billed annually.

Do I have to link my bank? Not with Subgrove. No bank login, no aggregator, no permission screen.

Can I track GBP and USD together? Yes. Every subscription keeps its own currency and the dashboard shows a pound total and a dollar total side by side, with no exchange-rate conversion to drift.

Is there an Android app? Yes — Subgrove is a PWA, so it installs on Android, iPhone and desktop from the browser, with no app store.
