How to Cancel Amazon Audible and Prime

To cancel Audible, sign in at audible.com, select your name, open Membership details, choose the cancel membership link and then Confirm cancellation. To cancel Amazon Prime, go to Amazon's Prime cancellation page from your account and follow the prompts. Those are two separate jobs: ending Prime leaves Audible billing you, and ending Audible doesn't touch Prime.
Both sit behind the same Amazon login, which is where the confusion comes from. They renew on different dates for different amounts, and each has its own cancellation flow. Here's how to close each one, what happens to unspent Audible credits, and when Amazon refunds Prime.
Two memberships, one login
In the US, Amazon says Prime costs $14.99 a month or $139 a year and covers delivery, Prime Video and other perks. Audible is an audiobook membership that Amazon owns but bills separately. Its plans page currently lists Standard at $8.99 a month and Premium at $14.95 a month, plus annual Premium plans at $149.50 (12 credits) and $229.50 (24 credits).
You can have Prime without Audible, Audible without Prime, or both. Audible even advertises discounted Audible trials to Prime members, which is how many people end up with both without noticing. Check each cancellation on its own rather than assuming one email covered "my Amazon stuff".
Cancelling Audible on audible.com
These steps are from Audible's cancel membership help article:
- Go to audible.com in a browser and sign in with the account that has the membership.
- Select your name in the top navigation. (On a phone browser, open the main menu first, then select your name.)
- Choose Membership details.
- Select the cancel membership link.
- Select Confirm cancellation, then look for Audible's confirmation email.
No cancel option showing? Audible says to check that you're signed in to the account that actually holds the membership. If you have more than one Amazon or Audible login, try the other email address.
Deleting the app doesn't cancel anything. Audible says this outright. Your membership keeps renewing until you cancel it on the website or in the store that bills you.
Billed by Apple or Google? If you joined through the App Store or Google Play, Audible can't cancel it for you. Cancel in your iPhone's subscription settings or in Google Play's subscriptions list. The card statement is the giveaway: a line from Apple or Google rather than Audible.
Unused credits and borrowed titles
Before you confirm, check your credit balance. Audible's before you cancel article says remaining membership credits are forfeited at the end of your final billing cycle. Credits also expire 12 months after they're issued even if you stay. The exception is credits received through the App Store or Google Play, which don't expire.
What you keep depends on how you got each title:
- Bought with a credit or a card: yours to keep, and you can download it again after you cancel.
- Plus Catalog or other included titles: these lock in your library when the membership ends. Audible says you regain access if you rejoin.
- Standard plan picks: Audible's plans page says Standard members can listen to their selected audiobooks "for as long as you're a member", so those go too. If you're on Standard, don't assume your monthly picks are owned.
Spend your Premium credits on titles you actually want, then cancel. Three unspent credits on Premium are worth roughly $45 at the monthly price, and that money disappears when the final billing cycle ends.
Pausing instead
If you want to stop paying for a while without losing your credits, Audible's before-you-cancel page says you can pause eligible monthly plans for up to 90 days every 12 months. A pause keeps existing credits active until their original expiry dates and keeps your member discount. Annual plans can't be paused.
You can also switch between Standard and Premium without losing credits if you bought the membership on Audible's website. App Store and Google Play memberships are switched through those stores.
Cancelling Amazon Prime
Amazon's Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership help page is short: open the Cancel Your Prime Membership page and follow the prompts. Your Prime membership page has more options if you want to change plans rather than leave.
- Sign in to amazon.com.
- Open the Cancel Your Prime Membership link in Amazon's help article, or find the cancel option from your Prime membership page.
- Follow the prompts to the end. Amazon may show you what you'll lose along the way; keep going until you reach a confirmation.
- Note the date your membership ends, and keep the confirmation email.
If the flow doesn't work, Amazon's help page says to go to the Customer Service homepage, choose Help with other issues, then I need help with something else.
The cancellation flow has been a legal issue in the past. In September 2025 the FTC secured a $2.5 billion settlement over Prime, having alleged that Amazon signed people up without consent and made cancelling difficult. The settlement requires Amazon to offer an easy way to cancel Prime using the same method people used to sign up. Prime refunds
Amazon's help page states only one refund rule: paid members who haven't used their benefits are eligible for a full refund of the current membership period, processed in three to five business days. If you've used Prime delivery or Prime Video since your last renewal, the help page doesn't promise any refund.
So for most annual members the cleaner move is to cancel well before the renewal date and keep the benefits you've already paid for. It costs nothing to cancel early; it costs $139 to cancel a day late.
Prime Video add-ons and third-party Prime
Two more things from Amazon's help page:
- Prime Video Channels keep billing. Add-on subscriptions bought through Prime Video, such as Paramount+, continue after your Prime membership ends. Cancel them separately under your memberships and subscriptions.
- Prime through Google Play or another company. If you signed up for Prime through Google Play on Android, cancel through Google Play's subscriptions. If Prime came bundled with another company's service, contact that company to cancel.

The row that matters most is the one that isn't there: cancelling one does nothing to the other.
Stop the next renewal sneaking past
Prime and Audible renew on different days, so one reminder won't cover both. Add each to Subgrove as its own entry with its own renewal date, and you'll get a push or email reminder before each charge, timed however far ahead you set it. It's manual entry with no bank connection, so it never sees your Amazon account; it just reminds you about the dates you entered.
