Rocket Money in the UAE: What Works Instead

App Comparisons · The Subgrove Team · · Updated · 4 min read

Short answer: no, Rocket Money is not available in the UAE. Its own help centre puts it plainly — the app is "only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks," and says international support isn't currently offered. No UAE launch, no waitlist, and a VPN won't get you in, because what it needs is a US bank account, not a US location.

So the real question is what works here at all. Here's the honest landscape.

Why This Is Structural, Not a Missing Feature

The problem is deeper than a roadmap gap. Rocket Money's signature move — finding your subscriptions without you typing anything — depends on reading your bank transactions through a US data aggregator plugged into American banking rails.

A pipeline built against US banks doesn't reach an Emirates NBD or FAB account. Any app whose core promise is "we read your bank feed" inherits the banking system it was built for.

What People in the UAE Try Next

A local open-finance money app. The UAE is building its own rails. The Central Bank of the UAE published an Open Finance Regulation in the Official Gazette on 15 April 2024, rolling out in phases, with participation mandatory for UAE-licensed banks through a centralised API hub. As that matures, expect local apps that read your accounts with consent and flag recurring charges — at the cost of a live connection to your bank. Some banks already offer this inside their own apps; our UAE budget app guide covers what's live today.

Your bank's own app. Emirates NBD, FAB, ADCB, Mashreq and digital banks like Liv and Wio all surface recurring card payments to some degree. The catch is that it only sees money moving through that bank — a subscription on another card, or billed through the App Store, is invisible.

A spreadsheet. It works — we publish a template. It just has no reminders, the part that saves you money before a renewal.

Every bank-linked option inherits a banking system; the good automatic ones will be the ones built for the UAE.

The Option That Doesn't Care Where You Bank

There's a category that sidesteps all of this: trackers where you enter your subscriptions yourself. No bank connection means no banking rails, which means no country gate — it works the same in Dubai, Delhi and Denver.

Subgrove is built this way, and the UAE-specific consequences are worth spelling out:

  • It works here. There's no country check, because there's nothing to check — you're keeping a list.
  • It handles AED and USD together. Anghami and Careem Plus bill in dirhams; Netflix, Spotify and half your software stack bill in dollars. Multi-currency tracking keeps each subscription in the currency you pay it in and totals them per currency, so nothing drifts with an exchange rate.
  • It never asks for your banking credentials. Our guide on tracking without bank linking covers the reasoning.
  • It installs like an app on any device. It's a PWA, so the same thing runs on iPhone, Android and desktop, and works offline.

The free subscription cost calculator gives you the monthly and yearly total in two minutes — no signup.

What You Give Up — Honestly

Rocket Money's real draw is cancelling subscriptions on your behalf and negotiating your bills. Subgrove does neither. It shows you what you're paying and warns you before a renewal. Our guide on cancelling anything gets you most of the way for free.

You also give up automatic detection. For the OSN+, Shahid, STARZPLAY, noon One and Amazon Prime mix most people hold, that's a couple of minutes of typing, once.

Getting Started

If you'd rather start from a buyer's checklist — what a tracker has to do to work in the UAE, and how the big names compare — read our subscription tracker app for the UAE guide.

Sweep first so nothing's missing: our guide on finding forgotten subscriptions covers card statements, email searches, and the Apple and Google Play subscription pages. Then add each one with its price and renewal date, and set a reminder.

The same honest breakdown exists for Australia, the UK and India, and the full list of where Rocket Money works is one country long. You can sign up from anywhere in the Emirates. The free plan covers your first five subscriptions. Upgrades bill in USD — the dirham is pegged to the dollar, but the charge still lands on your card as a foreign transaction, so check your bank's fee.

Common Questions About Rocket Money in the UAE

Is Rocket Money available in the UAE? No. Rocket Money's help centre states the app is "only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks." There is no UAE version and none has been announced.

Does Rocket Money work with UAE banks? No. Emirates NBD, FAB, ADCB, Mashreq, Dubai Islamic Bank and RAKBANK all sit outside the US banking rails Rocket Money's aggregator connects to.

Can I use Rocket Money in Dubai with a VPN? No. A VPN changes your apparent location, not where you bank.

What is the UAE equivalent of Rocket Money? Nothing matches it feature-for-feature yet. The Central Bank's open-finance framework will power local apps that read accounts with consent, but bill negotiation has no local counterpart. For tracking alone, a manual tracker like Subgrove works here without any bank connection.

Does Rocket Money charge in AED? The question doesn't arise — you can't complete signup without a US bank. Trackers that do accept UAE customers commonly bill in USD, so check your card's foreign-transaction fee first.
