Rocket Money Doesn't Work in France — What Does

App Comparisons · The Subgrove Team · · 4 min read

Short answer: no, Rocket Money is not available in France, and there is no French-language version. Its help centre is blunt: "Rocket Money is only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks." The barrier is the bank, not your location, so a French IBAN rules you out wherever you happen to be.

Why a French Version Isn't Coming Soon

Rocket Money finds your subscriptions by reading transactions through a US data aggregator. None of that reaches BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, Société Générale, La Banque Postale or Boursorama.

In France, an app that reads your bank accounts does so under the EU's PSD2 rules and answers to the ACPR, the French banking supervisor. Linxo, for example, describes itself on its own site as an "établissement de paiement agréé par l'ACPR". A US app would need all of that before it could show you a single prélèvement. Our Rocket Money in Europe page covers the same problem across the EU.

What People in France Use Instead

A French budgeting app. Two worth knowing, both bank-linked:

  • Bankin'. Free to download with paid Bankin' Plus and Pro tiers. Its App Store listing says it connects to more than 350 banks in four countries (France, the UK, Spain and Germany) and that over 4 million people use it in Europe. It covers spending, budgets, savings and loans.
  • Linxo. Its current app, Linxo Lab, is free on the App Store and aggregates your accounts and expenses in one view.

Your bank's app. Every prélèvement shows up there. It just can't see the card subscriptions on your other account, or the App Store charges billed to a card you rarely open.

A spreadsheet. Our free template works, but it won't remind you before anything renews.

Tracking Without Connecting Your Bank

A tracker you fill in yourself has no bank to connect to, so it has no country restrictions either.

That's how Subgrove works, and for someone in France it means:

  • Nothing to authorise. No bank login, no consent screen, no aggregator. You keep a list. Here's why we skip bank linking.
  • Euros and dollars stay separate. Canal+ bills in EUR, a US design tool bills in USD. Multi-currency tracking keeps each in its own currency and shows a monthly total for each, with no conversion.
  • Reminders before each renewal. Push and email, on the free plan.
  • One tracker on every device. It's a PWA: it installs from the browser on iPhone, Android or a laptop, and works offline.

French Rules That Reward Knowing Your Renewal Dates

French law makes cancelling easier, if you act in time:

  • Résiliation en trois clics. If a business lets you sign a contract online, it must also let you cancel online, through a function labelled "résilier votre contrat" or equally clear wording. Décret n° 2023-417, applying the August 2022 "pouvoir d'achat" law (Loi n° 2022-1158), took effect on 1 June 2023. Service-public lists telecoms, energy suppliers, newspapers and online media, dating sites, gyms and software publishers among the contracts covered, and says it costs nothing extra.
  • The renewal warning (loi Chatel). For a fixed-term service contract that renews itself, the business must write to you, by dedicated letter or email, between three months and one month before your deadline to refuse renewal, with that deadline in a visible box (article L215-1 of the Code de la consommation; the rule began as article L136-1, added by Loi n° 2005-67). If it doesn't, you can end the contract free of charge at any time after it renews.

If a prélèvement has already gone out, service-public says you can dispute an authorised SEPA direct debit within 8 weeks of the debit, or 13 months if you never authorised it. That gets one payment back. It doesn't cancel anything.

What You Give Up — Honestly

Rocket Money cancels subscriptions for you and negotiates some bills. Subgrove does neither. It shows what you pay and warns you before renewals; the three clicks are yours. Our cancellation guide walks through it.

There's no automatic detection from your bank either. You add subscriptions by hand, or paste a statement export into the subscription finder, which runs in your browser, reads French dates and amounts like 05/10/2026 and 12,99, and uploads nothing.

And Subgrove is in English only. The service names and prices you enter can be in French, but the menus and emails aren't. Bankin' and Linxo are both in French.

Getting Started

Gather your subscriptions first; our forgotten subscriptions guide covers statements, app stores and your inbox. Add each one with its price, billing cycle and next renewal date. If you're still comparing apps, our subscription tracker guide for Europe has a checklist; the Germany page has the German rules.

Our list of where Rocket Money works has one entry. You can sign up for Subgrove from France today: the free plan covers five subscriptions, and Pro is billed in US dollars.

Common Questions About Rocket Money in France

Is Rocket Money available in France? No. Its help centre restricts it to users in the United States with US-based banks.

Is there a French version of Rocket Money? No. Its App Store listing gives English as the only language, and it doesn't support French banks. For a budgeting app in French, look at Bankin' or Linxo.

Can I use Rocket Money in France with a VPN? No. A VPN changes your apparent location, but Rocket Money also requires a US-based bank.

What's the French equivalent of Rocket Money? For bank-linked budgeting, Bankin' and Linxo are the French options. For tracking subscriptions without connecting a bank, a manual tracker like Subgrove works in France.
