Rocket Money Doesn't Work in Spain — What Does

App Comparisons · The Subgrove Team · · 4 min read

Short answer: no, Rocket Money doesn't work in Spain. Its help centre says "Rocket Money is only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks." An account at Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank, Sabadell or ING España doesn't qualify, and there's no Spanish version of the app.

Why It Can't Just Switch On in Spain

Rocket Money spots subscriptions by reading your transactions through a US data aggregator. Spanish banks aren't on those rails.

In Spain, reading someone's bank accounts is a regulated activity. Fintonic, for example, says in its App Store listing that it is "la primera fintech española autorizada y supervisada por el Banco de España, con número de registro 6935" to provide account information services. A US app would need that kind of authorisation, plus connections to Spanish banks, before it could read a single recibo. Our Rocket Money in Europe page covers the rest of the EU.

What People in Spain Use Instead

Fintonic. A free Spanish money app that connects to your bank accounts. Its homepage says more than 2 million people have connected their banks. Be clear about what it's for today: the app now centres on FinScore, its own financial rating, and on finding loans across "más de 40 entidades". It still tracks spending, but it's a credit-and-finance app more than a subscription tracker.

Bankin'. The French budgeting app lists Spain as one of its four countries, alongside France, the UK and Germany, according to its App Store listing. It's free to download, with paid tiers.

Your bank's app. Every recibo domiciliado lands there. It won't show the card subscriptions on your other account, or warn you before an annual one renews.

A spreadsheet. Our free template is a fine start, but it can't send you a reminder.

The No-Bank-Link Option

A tracker you fill in yourself doesn't connect to any bank, so it doesn't care which country you're in.

Subgrove works that way. For someone in Spain:

  • No bank login, ever. Nothing to authorise and no aggregator in the middle. Here's why we skip bank linking.
  • Euros and dollars kept apart. Your gym bills in EUR, a US app bills in USD. Multi-currency tracking gives each currency its own monthly total, as billed, with no conversion.
  • A warning before each renewal. Push and email reminders on the free plan.
  • Runs on whatever you own. It's a PWA, so it installs from the browser on iPhone, Android or a laptop, and works offline.

Spanish Rules That Make Cancelling Easier

Spain's main consumer law, the Ley General para la Defensa de los Consumidores y Usuarios, has three rules worth knowing:

  • Leave the way you joined. Article 62.3 says you can end an ongoing service contract "en la misma forma en que lo celebró", without penalties or onerous charges. Signed up online, cancel online. Article 62.4 adds that these contracts must spell out how to cancel.
  • Permanencia penalties are capped. If you break a minimum-term commitment, the penalty must be proportional to the days left (article 62.5, in force since 1 January 2022).
  • A 15-day renewal heads-up. Since 28 December 2025, when Ley 10/2025 rewrote article 97.1.p, a fixed-term contract sold at a distance that's set to renew must come with notice 15 days before your deadline to refuse renewal, explaining what happens if you don't.

If a recibo has already been charged, the Banco de España explains you can have it returned within eight weeks if you'd authorised it, or 13 months if you hadn't. The CEC-España warns that if you don't give a reason, the company may treat the return as you cancelling the service for good. Returning a recibo gets one payment back; cancelling is a separate step.

What You Give Up — Honestly

Rocket Money cancels subscriptions for you and negotiates some bills. Subgrove does neither: it tells you what's coming and when, and you do the darse de baja yourself. Our cancellation guide walks through it.

You also lose automatic detection. You add subscriptions by hand, or paste a statement export into the subscription finder. It runs in your browser, understands day-first dates and comma decimals like 9,99, and uploads nothing.

And Subgrove's interface is in English only. Fintonic's is in Spanish.

Common Questions About Rocket Money in Spain

Does Rocket Money work in Spain? ¿Funciona en España? No. Its help centre limits it to users in the United States with US-based banks.

Is there a Rocket Money España or Spanish-language version? No. Its App Store listing gives English as its only language, and it doesn't connect to Spanish banks.

Can I use Rocket Money in Spain with a VPN? No. A VPN changes where you appear to be, but Rocket Money still needs a US-based bank.

What's the Spanish alternative to Rocket Money? For a free bank-linked money app, there's Fintonic, though it's now focused on credit and loans. For subscription tracking without a bank connection, a manual tracker like Subgrove works in Spain.
