Does Copilot Money Work in Australia?
App Comparisons · The Subgrove Team · · 4 min read
No, Copilot Money does not work in Australia. Its help centre says: "At this time, we only support US financial institutions and as such are only available in the US App Store." We checked on 30 September 2026: Copilot's App Store page loads on the US store and returns an error on the Australian one, and a search of the Australian store doesn't list it.
Our country-by-country Copilot guide has the full list (it's one country long). This page goes deeper on Australia.
Why It Stops at the Border
Copilot's FAQ is direct: "Copilot Money works with US-based accounts only." Its automatic categories, spending breakdowns and recurring-charge detection all run on account data pulled in by aggregators its help centre names as "Plaid or MX". Those connections are built for US institutions. A Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, NAB or ANZ account sits outside them, so the dashboard has nothing to read.
Two more walls sit behind that one:
- Currency. The help centre states that "Copilot only supports USD and does not convert foreign currency transactions." If you're paid in AUD, that's the whole ledger.
- Platform. Copilot lists iPhone, iPad, Mac and Web. There's no Android app, in Australia or anywhere else.
What about a US Apple ID or a VPN? A US App Store account might get the app installed, but you still can't connect an Australian bank, and a VPN changes neither. Copilot runs a "Country Leaderboard" where you can vote for Australia; we found no launch date from the company.
Doesn't Australia Already Have Open Banking?
It does, and that's the interesting part. The Consumer Data Right is available in the banking sector. In the privacy regulator's words, it "allows you to give an accredited business access to your consumer data," and "only a business the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has accredited can provide services" under it. It's opt-in, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
So the rails exist. Australian money apps built on the CDR can read your accounts with consent. Copilot just isn't built on them: joining would mean ACCC accreditation and a new connection layer for Australian banks, and Copilot hasn't said it plans either. If automatic detection is what you're set on, a CDR-accredited local app is the category to look at.
The other big US budgeting app doesn't fill the gap either. Monarch Money isn't on the Australian App Store (we checked the same day), and its site announces Canada but says nothing about Australia. More in our Monarch country guide.
If What You Wanted Was Subscription Tracking
Many people look at Copilot for one job: seeing recurring charges before they land. That job doesn't need a bank connection.
Subgrove is a subscription tracker where you enter what you pay, and four things follow for Australians:
- Works without a bank connection. Nothing to link, no credentials, no country gate. See tracking without bank linking.
- AUD and USD side by side. Each subscription keeps the currency it bills in, so a streaming plan in AUD and a design tool in USD show up as two monthly and yearly totals, one per currency, next to each other. More in multi-currency tracking.
- iPhone and Android. It's a PWA: it installs to the home screen from Safari or Chrome, opens on a laptop with the same account, and works offline. A household that mixes phones is covered, which Copilot can't do; see tracking on iPhone and Android.
- Free reminders before every renewal. Push and email reminders are on the free plan, which tracks up to five subscriptions. Pro adds unlimited subscriptions, household sharing, free-trial tracking and price-increase alerts.
What You Give Up — Honestly
It isn't a budgeting app. No categories across all your accounts, no net worth, no spending charts. That's Copilot's territory, and a subscription tracker doesn't replace it. Our Copilot Money alternatives comparison covers the full-budgeting options.
No automatic transaction import. You add subscriptions yourself. The statement import helps: paste transactions from your bank statement or app and Subgrove picks out likely subscriptions in your browser, with nothing uploaded. But it's a paste, not a live feed.
Getting Started
For which trackers work here and how they compare, read our subscription tracker app for Australia guide. If Rocket Money was the other app on your list, see Rocket Money in Australia.
Then do a sweep with finding forgotten subscriptions. Sign up from anywhere in Australia; nobody asks which bank you use.
